Basic Information

Setsuna is the first outer senshi to appear on the show. She makes her debut through Chibiusa’s Luna-P Magic Ball in Sailor Moon R. She appears in the left eye of Luna-P as a blotchy picture. Towards the end of the R season, you see Setsuna’s true identity, Sailor Pluto.

 

Sailor Pluto originally attacks Sailor Moon thinking that Usagi was an intruder, but once Chibiusa finds Sailor Moon she lets them through the time chamber door.

 

Luna talked about how Sailor Pluto devotes her life to guarding the Time Chamber and has never been seen by anyone before. She has to keep her identity a complete secret at all times.

 

The audience only gets to see Sailor Pluto several times during Sailor Moon R, however they get to see the actual Setsuna during the next season. During Sailor Moon S, Setsuna appears in the episode where the 3 talismans are collected and the Holy Grail is formed. She originally appeared as a mysterious stranger who helped direct Usagi to the church that Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus went to, and eventually transforms in front of everyone showing that she’s Sailor Pluto.

 

Her reason for leaving the Time Chamber in the third season isn’t explained, however you can assume it was to help save the world. She had one of the three talismans, which was the orb. She also knew that Michiru and Haruka had the other two talismans.

 

After the Holy Grail appears, she decides to join Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus in their journey to find the Messiah. The Inner Senshi felt somewhat betrayed by her choice, but she knew it was the right thing to do. She fought along side both the Inner Senshi and Outer Senshi because she wanted to protect Small Lady.

 

Setsuna doesn’t really have any serious relationships or friendships besides her friendship with Chibiusa and Hotaru. She takes care of both girls throughout the show because they both depend on her and she wants to. Chibiusa needed a friend for a long time and found her good friend “Puu” before she met Usagi and the others.

 

Setsuna is a bit different from the other Outer Senshis. She would inform the Inner Senshi of what’s happening instead of completely ignoring them like Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus did. Setsuna attempted to keep them out of their affairs, however she always would inform them of what’s happening.

 

She warned the Inner Senshi about “The Silence” that was approaching and helped explain to Rei what her visions meant.

 

She is always thinking of others and hardly ever herself. She ended her life in Sailor Moon S (even though she returns in the final season) by stopping time to save Sailor Uranus and Neptune from a helicopter explosion. She paused time to give Michiru and Haruka time to escape before they all died.
