Basic Information

Haruka Ten'ou made her debut along with Sailor Neptune on the first episode of Sailor Moon S. She appeared as Sailor Uranus, however she was hidden by a shadow. Her attack rescued the Sailor Senshi from being killed by the new enemy (Diamon.)

 

For the first few episodes Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus only show up where a pure heart crystal is because they were looking for the three talismans. Their mission wasn’t fully explained to the Inner Senshi for quite a while.

 

Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus were given the opportunity to become Sailor Warriors and protect the world from “The Silence.” Both Haruka and Michiru took the responsibility of becoming a Sailor Senshi.

 

To avoid the silence from approaching they had to collect all three talismans to form the Holy Grail. The three talismans were located in three pure hearts of three different people. Once all three talismans were collected, they would form the Holy Grail. Sailor Neptune’s mission was to collect all three talismans, form the Holy Grail and find the Messiah who would save the earth. She also had to make sure that the Holy Grail wouldn’t fall in the hands of the Messiah of Silence (Hotaru.)

 

Sailor Uranus claimed she was willing to risk anyone’s life to obtain a talisman, and she made a promise with Michiru to not let their feelings for each other get in the way of their mission.

 

Once the Holy Grail appeared, she let Usagi hold on to it since her powers greatly increased. Sailor Uranus comes off more nasty than Sailor Neptune did because she had to be the bad guy in this situation. Sailor Neptune is more thoughtful than Uranus, however Uranus just wanted to focus on the mission instead of saving peoples feelings.

 

Your first impression of Haruka may be that she’s a man, but you’re wrong. Haruka is a women who dresses less feminine than most women. She wears a tie and suite (the male uniform) to school and wears casual men’s clothes around the city. Her boyish looks has led characters to believe that she’s a charming man. There is one specific episode where Usagi and Minako chase Haruka around Tokyo City instead of studying because they thought that she was their prince. Eventually Haruka tells them that she’s a girl, and Minako ends up very embarrassed.

 

In the English dub of Sailor Moon all homosexuality events are written out of the show. For example, the relationship between Zoysite and Kunzite was still written in, however DIC turned Zoysite into a women to hide the gay relationship between them.

 

The relationship between Michiru and Haruka was completely written out. The English version claims that Michiru and Haruka were just cousins. However, in the original Japanese version, Michiru and Haruka are lesbian partners. Not much is showed of their relationship besides the closeness that they both have with each other.
